Steve Jobs Demos the First Macintosh in 1984
You may have all OD’ed on Steve Jobs tributes, but over the weekend I got into a run of watching YouTubes from various points in his life.
This one is him presenting then first ever Macintosh to astonished punters in 1984.
The look on his face, when the crowd looses it at the end, is quite something.
(via Open Culture)
Also here is him dealing with haters hating after he returned to the company in 1997. (via Peter Nidzgorski)
Here is the famous Stanford Commencement Speech in 2005 from which a lot of the quotes that have been flying around the internet were taken. (via Katie West)
And finally, just to keep things in perspective (other technology is available etc), here is What Everyone is Too Polite To Say About Steve Jobs. (via John Brissenden)Posted by BurningFencePost 10.10.11 • View Comments

Radio SoulWax
“Ok, so it’s a radio station, but not as you know it. For now, it’s a growing collection of 24 one hour-long mixes with visuals that we are sharing with you for free, and hopefully it will become a platform for many more things to come. We call them mixes, but in reality they are more like musical films based on the record sleeves.
Every hour has a different musical and visual theme (always based on the covers), to eventually make for a varied day-long radio schedule that will remain online in a rotated and continuous loop."

Tele-Present Water?
Can you get Tele-Present motion sickness also?
Via: CPluv
This installation draws information from the intensity and movement of the water in a remote location. Wave data is being collected in real-time from National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration data buoy Station 46246 (49°59’7" N 145°5’20" W) on the Pacific Ocean. The wave intensity and frequency is scaled and transferred to the mechanical grid structure installed at The National Museum in Wroclaw, Poland. The result was a simulation of the physical effects caused by the movement of water from this distant location.

The Adjustment Bureau
This book is the highlight of the film.
I giggled through the last ten minutes as any remaining subtlety was trampled by a marching band of anti-predestinarianism and apple pie. But the film is true to its own ideology: dialogue lacking the appellation “The Adjustment Bureau” suggests a lack of determination and certainty in the film’s future- as does the poster campaign informing either “Fate” or “Future” have been adjusted… Guys, it’s alright to pick a title and a strapline; it don’t mean the Reds are gonna get ya!
BUT, the typography is on trend, and the book design and animation is beautiful.

Net Neutrality
Net Neutrailty – if you don’t know what it is, or want a nice clear summing up then take a look at this animated explaination. Not marvelous visually, but this is an important issue for anyone who likes to be able to access content from more than a few pre-selected sources. Imagine having to pick your service provider based not on speed and stability, but on who owns the content you want to view. The government is currently looking into it and BT are already talking about implementing a 2 tier system
