Net Neutrailty – if you don’t know what it is, or want a nice clear summing up then take a look at this animated explaination. Not marvelous visually, but this is an important issue for anyone who likes to be able to access content from more than a few pre-selected sources. Imagine having to pick your service provider based not on speed and stability, but on who owns the content you want to view. The government is currently looking into it and BT are already talking about implementing a 2 tier system

Jamie Lidell’s new album Compass came out a week or so back and ’tis wonderful listening if you like your soul with a fuzzy wooden shack vibe (the album was produce in part by Beck). Probably the best soul singer in the world today, Lidell can rock it anywhere as he & his band prove in the first few minutes of this clip (skip the bit with the French guy reading his hororscope)

For 2 weeks from 17th of June onwards Howies on Queens Road here in Bristol will be displaying the entries for the latest Ink Dot Exhibition. The one above is my own, but there will also be work from 2 fellow BDHers – Carys and Mr Timm – as well as great stuff from Bristol’s bestest designers and illustrators.
The theme this time is ‘Escape’ and artists were asked to limit themselves to using 6 pre-selected colours.

Charlie Kaufman’s directorial debut Synecdoche, New York comes out soon and Aint It Cool have the trailer for it embedded here.
The film follows a guys attempts (Phillip Seymour Hoffman) to recreate a full scale replica of New York, including every brick and every person, inside an old aircraft hanger. Groovy idea.
Once you’ve watched that, scroll down the page to the first part of a very interesting two part interview with the man, recorded just as Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was released.

Firstly Kevin Dart creates stuff in a similar style to those lovely book covers, though with a little less sleaze. He is also the guy responsible for the beautiful backgrounds in the BBC Olympic animation from Jamie Hewlitt and Co.
Nextly, here is some stuff on the making of that Color of Sound video The Ravonettes. It was directed by Chris Do of Bl:nd, the company who produce the great Rorschach inspired video for Gnarls Barkley’s Crazy.

The pic is by Justin Quinnel, from right here in Bristol. He took it and about another 60 images with a specially built pin-hole camera and put them in a book. His site is here.

Here’s a link to a fantastic online illustration magazine called Ideafixa. Each of the 8 available issues is made up of illustrations and photographs centered around a particular theme. The above is a photo taken from the Metropolis issue.
Beware though – each issue works like a real magazine in that you have to flip pages manually which, when performed with a wacom pen, could lead to a RSI

Taking a break from messing around with Rubik’s Cubes and advertising computers, Michel Gondry directed a film featuring Jack Black and Mos Def as two guys trying to rebuild there video shop’s library of movies after an accident leads to all the tapes being wiped. The pic above is their attempt at Ghostbusters.
