MOTION GRAPHIC DESIGNER - (Junior)

We’re looking for a brilliant Junior Motion Graphics Designer to join our team in Bristol on an initial 6-month fixed-term contract, with the opportunity to become permanent.

You’ll be providing illustration, graphic design, motion graphics and 2D animation for content produced by the major broadcasters, streamers and leading production companies.

Experience

You should have experience in Graphic Design, a basic understanding of Animation (or the desire to learn), a relevant portfolio of work and be keen to develop new skills as part of a team.

Required Skills:

  • Competency with Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator

  • Strong foundational understanding of effective design and an interest in typography

Beneficial Skills/Software (not required but a bonus)

  • Adobe After Effects

  • Adobe Indesign

  • Illustration

  • Photography/Film

Must-be

  • An effective communicator

  • Punctual and professional

£20k – £24k – depending on skills and experience

VFX COMPOSITOR

Our ideal VFX Compositor will have:

  • Extensive Nuke knowledge and experience (demonstrated via showreel)

  • A good eye: recognising what makes an image appear realistic in terms of light, colour, composition and perspective

  • A strong understanding of the visual effects pipeline

Responsibilities in the role:

  • Integrating 2D and 3D elements of a shot while balancing the creative and technical side of each component

  • Paint fixes, rotoscoping, chroma keying, colour and grading continuity, graining/degraining images

  • Stitching plates together

  • Working with blue/green screen effects, creating mattes

  • Enhancing lighting effects and creating convincing shadows within a shot

ENVIRONMENT ARTIST - Houdini

Our ideal Environment Artist will be:

  • Familiar with the VFX pipeline

  • Familiar with 3D animation

  • Skilled in recreating photorealistic landscapes

  • Able to understand visual language - texture, colour, dimension, scale, perspective, lighting, shade, composition depth of field, proportion, etc

  • Good at communicating with the ability to work with creative and technical departments

  • Self-motivated, able to work under pressure and meet deadlines

  • Excellent regarding technical know-how

And will have:

  • Knowledge of geography, architecture and the laws of physics

  • Able to provide proof of training and hands-on experience in 3D modelling and sculpting

  • A good knowledge of the terrain toolset

  • A knowledge of Arnold, Redshift or Mantra

  • A cinematic sensibility and and appreciation of storytelling

Responsibilities of the role:

  • Modelling and texturing elements

  • Liaising with the other VFX Artists and VFX Supervisor regarding the layout and style of environments within the series

  • Working from storyboards and concept art to develop environments

  • Researching references and resources for creation of backdrops

  • Creating prototypes and mock-ups in the early stages of production

LIGHTING ARTIST

Our ideal Lighting Artist will have:

  • A high level of attention to detail with strong problem solving skills

  • Technical skills as well as an artistic eye for colour, light and FX

  • An understanding of colour space and the scientific principles behind creating realistic lighting whilst having a strong knowledge of lighting techniques

  • An in-depth knowledge of Houdini

  • A knowledge of Arnold, Redshift or Mantra

  • Effective communicative skills

Responsibilities for the role:

  • Collaborate with other VFX Artists and the VFX Supervisor

  • Execute the corrections requested by the Supervisor and the Director by showing an analytic and proactive mind

  • Maintain timing and production quotas given by production

  • Organise work and prepare presentation elements for approval

  • Communicate and seek information, if necessary

  • Ensure quality of final frames and cleanliness of setups

  • Contribute innovative and original ideas towards optimising lighting and look development for the production

FX TECHNICAL DIRECTOR

Our ideal FX Technical Director will have:

  • Career training in VFX and a strong portfolio or demo reel

  • Sound familiarity with cinematography and lighting; solid knowledge of the filmmaking process

  • Understanding of a VFX pipeline, software development, and how to code and integrate custom tools

  • Advanced understanding of physics and how particles move within the natural world

  • Proficiency with volume modelling, fluid & gas algorithms, and geometry generation

  • Extensive knowledge of Houdini

Responsibilities in the role:

  • Build and test software tools for the VFX artists to use

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest research and techniques

  • Make sure the effects look consistent and convincing

  • Overcome obstacles, use current technology to find new ways to achieve a creative vision

  • Work in partnership with other departments to ensure that shots are delivered to the highest possible standard

RENDER WRANGLER

Our ideal Render Wrangler would have:

  • Good communication skills

  • The ability to problem-solve independently

  • Strong organisational skills

  • The ability to manage workloads

  • The ability to work well in a team, as well as independently

  • The capability to meet strict deadlines

  • Computer programming expertise

  • High proficiency working with Linux, Python, Shotgrid and Deadline

Knowledge of Maya, Houdini, Nuke, Arnold and other VFX industry tools is a plus.

Responsibilities in the role:

  • Monitor, manage, and maintain the ability of the Render Farm to function at its maximum.

  • Monitor, manage, and audit renders for daily deliveries.

  • Maintain and track rendering priorities.

  • Troubleshoot rendering issue.

  • Plan and communicate effectively in accordance with the needs of the projects and of the production team.

  • Help and support the artists with support requests and errors.

  • Monitor infrastructure (servers) and identify problems.

  • Help to develop tools to support production.
