MAGRITTE VR is a journey through the work of one of the world's greatest and most popular artists in virtually reality.
"With Magritte VR we have an illusion Rene would adore". Julie Huon, Le Soir Newspaper.
MAGRITTE VR is an official celebration of the artist's work commissioned by the artist's estate. During the summer of 2017 over 30,000 people were taken on a journey inside a giant bowler hat - a specially constructed VR cinema installation in Knokke Heist, Belgium. The experience has appeared at many festivals including the INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL ON ART and the BEIJING FILM FESTIVAL and won awards including the Best Experiential at the DRUM CREATIVE AWARDS.
The audience is immersed in a series of landscapes; beach, forest, mountains and sky. The experience climaxes in celebration of his love, his muse and greatest inspiration of his life, fellow artist Georgette Berger.
BDH used hi-resolution scans of over 40 of Magritte's original artworks. Magritte VR is a shared Immersive VR experience triggered simultaneously for an audience of fifty at a time.
Rene Magritte ranks alongside Dalí and Miró as one of the most pre-eminent surrealist artists. MAGRITTE VR is part of The Magritte Experience event in Belgium acknowledging fifty years since the artist's death.
BDH Director, John Durrant, says (link to interview, VRroom) “As an artist he too would have been inspired by the emerging technologies. We can only dream what amazing virtual realities he would have created. I hope he would have enjoyed the Magritte Virtual Reality Experience.”
