Venice 1898 VR
VENICE 1898 VR - is an immersive virtual reality experience that takes the audience along Venice's Grand Canal in 1898 and incorporates footage taken by film pioneer WK Dickson. Made in collaboration with Academy 7 Productions for the British Film Institute.
WK Dickson's film of Venice has been meticulously cleaned and scanned at high resolution by the BFI and BDH Immersive have placed it into an augmented Venice, slowed down the footage by 400%, allowing the viewer to lean in and look at Venice as it was 120 years ago.
The VENICE 1898 VR Experience includes sailing along the Grand Canal to see the footage in situ in the Campo Eberia which has changed little since the hot Summer’s day in 1898.
The film is particularly moving because of a moment when a young Venetian boy acknowledges the camera - spotting the new technology of film gliding into his world.
